Heesen joins the Environmental Crew Guidelines programme by the Water Revolution Foundation
We at Heesen believe that protecting our environment and the world’s oceans is paramount. It is of vital importance to contribute to the sustainability cause with immediate actions. For this reason, we are supporting the Environmental Guidelines by the Water Revolution Foundation. These guidelines provide yacht crew with practices that they can take on board to introduce more sustainable practices, which can significantly reduce emissions (by up to 30%), whether by optimising temperature settings, making slight adjustments to cruising speeds or employing effective resource management. This project, initiated by MB92 and supported by many of our industry peers, will equip yacht crew with comprehensive knowledge and readily accessible and practical tools, representing an essential step towards a more sustainable and responsible future for superyacht operations.
We are delighted to embrace this opportunity and become part of a collective movement dedicated to protecting and preserving our precious environment and the industry we love. We firmly believe in taking responsibility for our actions and actively working towards minimising our environmental impact. We strive to set an example for the industry by incorporating eco-friendly practices in every aspect of our operations, from the design and construction of our yachts to the implementation of sustainable materials and technologies. We are excited to join this initiative by the Water Revolution Foundation to emphasize the significance of responsible yacht operation and support initiatives that promote environmental best practices, responsible waste management, energy conservation, and marine conservation. The power of innovation and responsible action pave the way for a more sustainable future on the water.
In addition to our commitment to sustainability in yacht construction and operation, we take proactive measures to reduce power consumption and harness renewable energy sources in our facilities in Oss and Winterswijk. Our plants are optimized for energy efficiency by incorporating innovative technologies such as Ciralights and solar panels.
Ciralights are intelligent lighting systems that utilize natural light to illuminate our facilities. By automatically adjusting the artificial lighting in response to the available daylight, Ciralights significantly reduce the need for energy consumption by up to 25%. This not only lowers our carbon footprint but also creates a more comfortable and productive working environment for our employees.
Furthermore, last year, we completed a 1.2 million Euro investment to cover 80 per cent of our roofs with solar panels, for a yield of 1.3 kilowatt-hours. Our solar farm produces 60 per cent of the power we need. We have implemented heat pumps to warm our sheds further and enhance our energy efficiency. By integrating these energy-efficient technologies and renewable energy systems into our plant, we commit to sustainable practices beyond yacht construction.
In the summer of 2023, we joined other businesses in our local community in the development of Het Bos van Oss, a fantastic initiative to plant a beautiful new 50-acre woodland in our home town.
We strive to create a working environment that aligns with our environmental stewardship and innovation values.
